Scholarship Winner Announced


Congratulations to Aviheya Zhushma
2012 Winner of the $750 Scholarship

The Marcy Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the selection of Aviheya Zhushma as recipient of its $750 scholarship award.  This award is based on scholastic achievement, school activities and community commitment.

Aviheya, a recent graduate of Whitesboro High School, plans to attend Mohawk Valley Community College in the fall and plans on transferring to SUNYIT after she receives her associate’s degree to study to become a nurse practitioner.

In her senior year, Aviheya participated in New Visions: Health Program that she credits in helping her prepare for her nursing career. During high school she was involved in many clubs and activities including: Building Bridges, SPC Choir, International Club, teacher/piano player for children’s classes, bible studies leader for preteen girls, singing group leader, church band, and yearbook club. She is a member of the National Honor Society and on the High Honor Roll.  Her volunteer work includes Salvation Army bell ringer, Rescue Mission, SPC camp counselor and intergenerational fall clean-up days. This past summer she went on a missionary trip to the Ukraine to help the less fortunate.

Aviheya is employed at River Road Farm and Greenhouses, owned by chamber members Jan and Karen Barendse.  According to her employers, Aviheya will succeed because of her friendly personality,  trustworthiness and work ethic.
