Please Support the Cookie Walk and Bazaar on Dec. 10

The Maynard United Methodist Church will host a Cookie Walk and Bazaar on Saturday, December 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the CNY Veterans Outreach Center’s efforts to assist the over 300 veterans and their families living in the Utica area.

What’s a cookie walk? You get to fill a small pastry box from the hundreds of assorted cookies that will be available. The box is weighed, and the cost is based on the weight. The church is charging $8 per pound.

The Maynard United Methodist Church is located at 9626 Maynard Drive, Marcy. The church is also accepting clothing donations on behalf of the Veterans Outreach Center. Items of clothing can be left inside the church’s front door.

Stop by and help out our veterans all while getting your "baking" done.

The holiday season is upon us - and with all the hustle and bustle, please remember to support your local businesses. This year, Marcy Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with River Road Farm and Greenhouses with a Poinsettia Fundraiser. Please download and post the attached flyer in your business and help the Marcy Chamber raise funds so we can continue to help you and your business.

Plants can be picked up from November 21 through December 19.
Colors available are: red, white, and pink.

Please pay for plants when you pick them up.

Frank Gruenewald Honored by Utica Area Rotary Clubs

The Utica Area Rotary Clubs are honoring Frank Gruenewald with their fourth annual Community Service Award on Saturday, November 12, at Harts Hill Inn.

Open bar is from 6 to 7 p.m., and deluxe buffet is served beginning at 7.

Tickets are $50 per person donation and benefit the North Utica Senior Citizens Community Center.

Announcing the 2011 Scholarship Recipient

Kristina Inessa Zhushma

The Marcy Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the selection of Kristina Inessa Zhushma as recipient of its annual $500 scholarship award. This award, made by committee decision, is based on scholastic achievement, school activities and community commitment.

Kristina, a recent graduate of Whitesboro High School, will attend Mohawk Valley Community College in the fall. She plans to take a leave of absence for the second semester to attend a six-month Bible school in Florida, returning to MVCC for summer courses. In Fall 2012, she will enter a four-year college to complete her degree work as a psychology major with a goal to become a marriage and family therapist.

During high school, Kristina was secretary of the National Honor Society, vice-president of the International Club, member of the Advisory Council and she participated in the band. She was recognized with an Award of Appreciation from BOCES. Kristina’s contributions to the community have been diverse with such activities as volunteering at the Rescue Mission, at nursing homes, and with youth at her church. In addition, she worked as a tutor, served as a camp counselor, directed both teen and youth choirs and participated in Marcy’s community-wide cleanup projects. Kristina also enjoys volleyball, playing the piano and singing.

Kristina is employed at River Road Farm and Greenhouses, owned by chamber members Jan and Karen Barendse. According to her employers, Kristina will succeed because of her excellent work ethics, friendly personality and trustworthiness.
